The ebook was predicted to spell doom for the real book when it was first launched but the rise of the ebook has been slow. One factor in its slow growth has been lack of agreement on a shared format and lack of interoperability between different operating systems and apps. True interoperability only really became possible when Kindle accepted independently uploaded EPUBs in 2022. Reading apps continue to differ in many ways, including the code they support to build files and the way in which they implement many of the EPUBs specifications. This makes it difficult for software to make interoperable files.
Writing a file directly with code rather than using software is a relatively quick, straightforward and precise way to make interoperable files. This download is fully interoperable. It will open on all reading apps (such as Apple Books and Kindle) and on all devices and operating systems. A link to a website version of this download will be on this site in November. All downloads on this site are just samples, a small idea of what is possible. They are all under 20MB in size.
